Ford Super Duty Trucks Get Big Power Boost in 2020

While today's full-size light-duty trucks are stronger than ever, and great for everyday practicality, there are still some jobs they're not quite suited for. When a 13,000-pound tow limit just won't cut it, you need the immense power and fortified construction of Ford Super Duty. Whether moving heavy machinery or need to transport a couple tons of material in the truck bed, Barlow and Kissimmee drivers can count on the dependable might of Super Duty trucks like the F-250 and F-350.

What's New For 2020

Having undergone a full refresh in 2017, one might think that the 2020 Super Duty would bring about only minor changes. However, we're excited to see that the latest model year includes some major upgrades to a heavy duty truck's most important asset: the behemoth engine options. A 6.2-liter V-8 is still standard under the hood, but an all-new available 7.3-liter version is on the horizon, bringing with it an additional 45 horsepower and 45 pound-feet of torque.

The fan-favorite turbocharged 6.7-liter diesel V-8 gets its own upgrade, with 25 more horsepower and quadruple-digit torque (1050 pound-feet).

Also new for 2020, the F-250 gets a new Tremor off-road package, available across the lineup (except XL and Lariat).

Power and Performance

Available Engines

Standard Super Duty power comes from a 6.2-liter SOHC 2-Valve Flex Fuel V-8 engine that generates 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Power reaches the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive is available as an option.

Announced for the 2020 model year, Super Duty trucks can option the all-new 7.3-liter V-8 engine that makes best-in-class gasoline horsepower (430) and torque (475 pound-feet of torque). Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, this available behemoth focuses on ultra-low-range torque for more powerful towing and hauling ability.

Lastly, for those seeking truly titanic torque levels, the available 6.7-liter Power Stroke® V-8 Turbo Diesel has it to spare. 2020 diesel-powered Super Duty trucks increase their already prodigious power, boasting 475 horsepower and 1050 pound-feet of torque!

Towing and Hauling

Ford hasn't released the updated towing and payload ratings yet; but they most certainly improve on these numbers from the previous model year:

  • F-250: The F-250 can tow up to 15,000 pounds with a conventional ball hitch. When equipped with the High Capacity Trailer Tow package, that capability climbs to 25,700 pounds. Max payload reaches 4,332 pounds.

  • F-350: Though powered by the same engine as the F-250, the F-350 features chassis, frame, and suspension upgrades, increasing conventional towing ability to 21,000 pounds. Equipped with the gooseneck hitch package, F-350 can tow up to 32,000 pounds. Max payload ranges from 3,774 pounds to 7,044 pounds.
