Interior and Utility

Inviting, attractive, and notably upscale, the Explorer's cabin features contoured and supportive seats, thoughtfully laid-out controls, and a variety of comfort and convenience amenities. The standard configuration provides accommodations for seven, and an available six-seat configuration includes second-row captain's chairs for more roominess and greater accessibility.

With all seats in use, Explorer still has nearly 20 cubic-feet for cargo behind the rear seats. The 50/50-split third row and E-Z Entry second row can be folded in a variety of configurations, providing up to 88 cubic-feet of maximum cargo capacity. Furthermore, with the Explorer, Barlow drivers aren't limited to what they can fit inside the cabin. When properly equipped, Explorer can tow up to 5,600 pounds.

In order to comfortably accommodate a bigger family, the 2020 Explorer is a larger vehicle; but that's not a hindrance to its performance. Confident highway merging and passing maneuvers are a breeze, as the Explorer gets quickly up to speed thanks to the 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine under the hood. Producing 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, the engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, improving both handling and towing capabilities. And, when properly equipped, the Explorer can tow up to 5,600 pounds.

If you're seeking an even more invigorating drive, Explorer Platinum finds motivation in a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 that puts out 365 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, the performance-focused ST trim boasts a high-output version of the same engine, ramping up the excitement with 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque.
