Model Highlight: The Redesigned 2020 Ford Explorer

An industry veteran and legend in the world of SUVs, the Ford Explorer has spent the better part of three decades developing a legacy of performance, versatility, and utility. Completely refreshed for the 2020 model year, Explorer charges into its sixth generation with more features and greater capability than ever before. Here's a quick look at a few of our favorite Explorer attributes.

  • Fully Equipped "Out of the Box": Even at the base trim level, the 2020 Explore comes generously equipped with several notable standard amenities. Features common to all trim levels include 18-inch wheels, a power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, automatic high beams, Wi-Fi, the SYNC 3 infotainment system with 8-inch touchscreen, and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of advanced driver-assistance technologies is also standard. It includes forward collision warning and mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, and lane keeping systems.

  • Powerful Engine Options: The Explorer's standard 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder provides plenty of get-up-and-go. Rated at 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, you won't have to worry about getting up to speed when merging or passing. Even so, if you're looking for something a little more potent, the Platinum trim features a 3.0-liter V-6 that produces 365 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. And the performance-focused ST trim equips a stronger version of the same powerplant, boosting output to 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque.

  • Versatile Utility: Though seating for seven is standard, if you don't need the extra seat, optional captain's chairs reduce capacity to six while increasing ease of access and comfort. Have a big weekend ahead of you? The second and third rows can be folded in several configurations for up to 88 cubic-feet of max cargo capacity. Need even more? When properly equipped, Explorer can tow up to 5,600 pounds.
